Synopsis

This issue of Trade Hot Topics examines World Trade Organization (WTO) complaints by Brazil in connection with the United States’ subsidisation of its domestic cotton industry, following the enactment of the 2002 Farm Act. In this case, the questions addressed by the WTO panel will, for the first time, focus on inequalities at the centre of global agricultural trade, with wider implications for the Doha Agenda agriculture negotiations and the expansion of the agricultural trade prospects for the developing world.
